This Griffin House Wedding in Oregon’s Columbia River Gorge was unforgettable! Huge shoutout to Lauren Miles Photo for sharing the gallery. This day was pure magic!

Jenica & James’s Love Story

How they met

Like many couples nowadays, they first noticed each other on a dating app. Unlike most online first dates, they spent 7 hours together! It all started with a friendly challenge to ping pong (yes, James’s competitive spirit didn’t let Jenica win haha!). The ping pong portion of the evening only lasted 45 mins… the remaining 6 hours were spent sharing life stories, interests, laughs; it was like they had known each other for years. James wasn’t willing to waste any time – before parting for the evening he made sure to secure a second date. And then a third, and a fourth.

Fun Fact: On the third date, James came clean about his plan to quit his job, purchase an RV and hit the road to compete in Professional Disc Golf in three short months. To his pleasant surprise, Jenica didn’t shy away from the adventure. Instead, six months later, Jenica quit her job and joined him in the RV. Right then they knew; if they could live on the road in 100 sq. ft. together, they could do anything!

The Proposal

In this section, we let James tell this story himself!

“After my first attempt to surprise Jenica didn’t work out according to plan – I struggled to come up with a Plan B. It was the night before we were leaving to drive to Montana (6 weeks later) when Jenica made a comment about being back on the road together. We joked about how simple life was living in an RV and that’s when it hit me….the road was such a big part of our story, that’s where I had to propose!

The next morning, I grabbed a fake ring out of her jewelry box (couldn’t ring shop because of COVID) and we hit the road. Twelve hours later, I convinced Jenica (currently driving) to pull off the road so we could switch drivers. Unbeknownst to Jenica, I directed her to take the same exit we took a year prior to attend my sister’s wedding; the place she met my family for the first time. And now it would become the place we became a family.

Fun Fact: I had it all planned out; a nice romantic setting near a river with mountains in the background. Instead of listening to my fantastic co-pilot directions of where to go, Jenica decided to take a quick left and pull into a gravel parking lot that belonged to the county dog shelter. “Right here is fine – we’re just switching drivers” she said. There we stood in a gravel parking lot with dogs barking around us. I couldn’t believe this is where I was about to propose but I wasn’t going to let another plan fail. So, after a bout of cottonmouth and calisthenics, I mustered up the courage, cleared a spot in the gravel and got down on one knee…”

Why the Griffin House in Oregon is our favorite venue:

Our overall experience with the Griffin House was phenomenal. Their team truly provides care for not only the wedding party and the couple, but for the vendors as well. We were constantly given timeline updates and given spot suggestions around the venue for more epic footage. As a result, we were able to catch an amazing variety thanks to them. And with their new addition of the tent/reception area, we can tell that they plan to keep growing and improving as a wedding venue. We’re excited to see what the future holds with them and we’re happy to come back anytime!
