Elopement activities are the most common question we get from our couples! You’re getting eloped for a reason – to make it simple, easy and more intentional. You’d be surprised by our list, because these might be things you two already love to do! If that’s the case, you should definitely add it to the itinerary of your elopement day. Your photo and video team can capture your genuine joy! And your memories would be that much more precious.
Elopement Activities before the Ceremony
Write your vows
Find a beautiful spot in your Airbnb or lay out a blanket outside and write your vows in your vow book
Check out these vow books on Amazon!
Do an editorial
Do a mini editorial photoshoot before you get in your dress! We’ve even had a bride do it in their Airbnb’s vintage bath tub!
Go on a morning walk
Take a morning walk around the area together. Bring your coffee or hot chocolate and enjoy this quiet moment before your day truly begins!
Paint your “Just Married” signs!
This is a popular trend for elopement couples. You can paint your signs and then hitch it to your car or backpacks like Anna & Gio did! Watch their video right here or read all about their story in our blog post here!
Sunrise Surf
Into surfing? Squeeze in a quick surf sesh the morning of your elopement before it’s time to shower and officially start getting ready. Nothing better than starting off the best day of your life with doing something you love. Especially if you two do it together!
Elopement Ceremony Ideas
Do a braided rope ceremony
Both the bride and groom make their own macrame rope design. Then, for the ceremony, you tie them together as one!
Take a shot together
Take a shot together to kick off the ceremony. Our favorite Oregon elopement officiant does this with all of his couples!
Flower Petals
Have your few guests throw flower petals over the both of you for the ceremony kiss!
Elopement Activities to make your day more fun and unique!
Trash the dress ideas
Trash the dress by jumping into a pool, lake or ocean! Or do our favorite method: stand under a waterfall!
Pack a picnic
Bring along a locally sourced charcuterie board and your favorite drinks.
Video Chat
Call up your closest family and friends to make your official announcement. Doing so, can make them feel like they are a part of your special day.
Cook dinner together
This is something my partner and I love to do together! Our favorites are salmon seaweed wraps, brussel sprouts with bacon or a meeaaan steak!
Play your musical instruments!
Serenade each other with your favorite songs like this couple did.
Do a champagne pop
This feels amazing when you get to the top of your hike. Or, right after you say your I Do’s! This elopement did theirs right after their ceremony at the Redwood Observatory Deck in Portland, OR!
Build a bonfire
Cuddle up by a bonfire and make some s’mores! This could be a great moment to do your first dance too like this couple did!
Stargaze
Look up at the night sky and reminisce about your favorite moments from the day. *Bonus if you plan your elopement around a New Moon or crescent moon for epic star photos or videos from us! Check out this video we made in Zion at sunrise where we hiked under the stars!
Unwind in the hot tub
And do it with a glass of wine like this couple did!
Sparklers are our favorite elopement activity!
Light some sparklers and end the day with some sparkly photos.
Head to a nearby dive bar
If you have a favorite nearby, even better! Most dive bars have aesthetic and moody neon signs to get cute photos with.
Ice Cream
Find a cute ice cream shop and get your sweet tooth taken care of!
Tattoo each other!
We got to film this vow renewal this summer and it was so cool! They decided to tattoo an X on each other’s ring fingers and it was so rad.
Have a color bomb fight!
Buy some fun colored powder and have an epic battle of who can get the most messy! Our tattoo couple also did this in downtown Portland and it was the most fun time!
Elopement Activities for your Adventure Elopement
Kayaking
Getting married at your favorite lake? Rent some kayaks and race each other in your wedding attire!
Sailboating
Sailboat into the sunset like this Greece elopement did! And definitely get an awesome florist to decorate it with your wedding colors.
Horseback riding
We absolutely loved this Kauai Elopement that did a horseback trek! This could be a super fun activity to do together if you’re both into horses or even have always wanted to. Making memories on your elopement day with new experiences is what it’s all about!
Helicopter Tour
Definitely our favorite type of elopement! We did an epic helicopter elopement in Alaska and it was the best way to get around and see such a variety of the Alaskan landscapes. Especially if you’re wanting an epic experience to see the land without ruining your hair and makeup along the way.
Snorkeling
Such a fun way to experience the ocean on your elopement day. Our favorite place we’ve snorkeled was Bali – see it on our About page!
Release butterflies
This would be a perfect activity to incorporate for a waterfall elopement in Oregon! Inquire with us here to see how we can set this up for you! We know a waterfall hike that’s full of butterflies, so it would tie perfectly with your day.
Go fishing
We’ve had so many PNW couples tell us that this is something they love to do together. Our favorite elopement incorporated this hike before their day and it was epic! Watch their video here!
Hire some fire performers and hula dancers
This is a popular idea for an island elopement and something we’ve captured in almost all of our destination wedding films! It could be a super cool form of entertainment during a later reception, and an overall experience for you and your guests!
That’s all we have for now! We can’t wait to see what the future holds for our couple’s creative ideas to surface. We love to film a pair that knows how to make their elopement day completely unique – just like the two of them! Whatever your heart desires on your elopement day, consider incorporating these fresh ideas.
